Gallagher in hospital after suffering a heart attack

Comedian Gallagher AP

(CBS News) Comedian Gallagher, famous for smashing watermelons, has suffered a heart attack, reports TMZ.

The 65-year-old comic was getting ready to hit the stage at a Texas bar on Wednesday night when he first started to feel chest pains. The club owner called 911, and Gallagher was transferred to a nearby hospital, according to the website.

Gallagher, whose real name is Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr., experienced a "mild to serious" heart attack, his manager told TMZ. He's expected to stay in the hospital for the rest of the week to undergo examinations.

This isn't Gallagher's first heart scare. Last March, he suffered a minor heart attack while on stage on Minnesota. But that hasn't slowed the comedian down: Gallagher scheduled a series of tour dates through the end of this year.
