Fulke Birdies Lancome Trophy
Sweden's Pierre Fulke birdied the final hole for his first career win on the European Tour at the $1.29 million Lancome Trophy on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Fulke shot a 4-under par 67 in the final round to end at 14-under par. He finished one stroke ahead of Spain's Ignacio Garrido, who had a 66 and was tied with Fulke until the final hole.
On the 18th, Fulke needed to sink a 10-yard birdie putt to edge Garrido.
European No. 1 Colin Montgomerie, Santiago Luna of Spain and England's Greg Owen ended 12-under par in the last big event before next week's Ryder Cup.
Fulke earned $214,600 for the victory.
He began the day at 10-under par, one shot behind defending champion and overnight leader Miguel Angel Jimenez.
Birdies on the second and seventh put him among the leaders.
With Garrido having just completed his round at 13-under par, Fulke was inches short of a birdie putt on the 17th that would have given him the lead.
Garrido had given himself a chance of a second European Tour win with birdies on the 10th, 14th and 16th, but on the final hole his tee shot into rough meant that he could only hold par.
Neither Fulke or Garrido made Europe's Ryder Cup team for next week's clash with the United States.
Jimenez immediately lost his one-stroke overnight lead when he bogeyed the first hole, and fell behind with another bogey on the seventh.
