Ken Clausen testified Wednesday and described Huguely's heavy drinking on May 2, 2010, one day before the 22-year-old  Love was found dead in her apartment bedroom. Huguely is on trial for first-degree murder in Love's death.

Clausen, a fellow lacrosse player at UVA, said when Huguely arrived at his apartment sometime around midnight on May 3, he had a "blank stare" on his face.

Clausen said he questioned Huguely about whether everything was ok. "There was no doubt in my mind there was a change in demeanor. I asked him three times what was wrong."

The Washington Post reports Huguely never game him an answer. Clausen told jurors he just stared at the TV screen.

Clausen testified that at about 11:40 p.m. on May 2, he and Huguely's then-roommate Kevin Carroll left the apartment Huguely and Carroll shared and went to buy beer. The trip supposedly lasted about 20 minutes. After they returned, Huguely walked in and they asked where he had been.

Huguely told them he had been in a downstairs apartment hanging out with two other lacrosse players, one of whom he said was drunk. Clausen testified that he thought that was "kind of strange," because he knew that player was working on a class paper that night.

When asked if Huguely had any visible injuries, Clausen said he did not.

The prosecution says the former lacrosse player had a violent encounter with Love in her bedroom the night she was found dead. They say Huguely shook Love until her head banged against a wall. The defense claims Love's death is accidental.

Huguely has pleaded not guilty to murder and five other charges in connection with the death.

The prosecution appears close to wrapping up its case. Judge Edward L. Hogshire  indicated he may hold a rare Saturday session in hopes of resolving the case before the President's Day holiday.
