Frantic search for Ga. girl, 14, taken in home invasion

ELLENWOOD, Ga. Police are searching for a 14-year-old girl after, they say, home invaders abducted her from her house south of Atlanta.

Police early Tuesday morning were stopping cars and checking them during an all-out search for the girl. A Levi alert was issued - similar to an Amber alert, reports CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV.

Clayton County police say the two men entered the home in the Atlanta suburb of Ellenwood through a back door around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Officer Phong Nguyen said the home invaders demanded money and jewelry. When the woman said she didn't have any, one of the men shot and killed the family dog.

"The mother actually tried to hide the two kids," Officer Nguyen explained to WGCL. "There was a little dog in the house that started barking. So the intruder shot the dog."

Police say they then took 14-year-old Ayvani Hope Perez, described as Hispanic, with brown eyes and black hair. She's 4 feet, 9 inches tall and 93 pounds. She was wearing pajama bottoms and a "Superheroes" shirt.

Police tell CBS News the men left in a grey car - a Dodge Charger or Chevy Malibu.
