Frank Defends Call For Cut In Military Spending

Rep. Barney Frank defended his call for a 25 percent cut in military spending in a brief interview with Politico on Monday, after his comments sparked a Republican firestorm.

“If we are going to get the deficit under control without slashing every domestic program, this is a necessity,” Frank said.

“The Pentagon is probably the most wasteful organization in the federal government and people have given it a pass for years,” Frank said.

Frank argued that even at 75 percent of its current military budget, America would “still be the strongest nation in the world,” noting that if the country got out of Iraq it could quickly reduce military spending.
