Four Iraq Votes In Senate Tomorrow, Followed By One On Thursday
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have set up four test votes on Iraq tomorrow, with amendments by Sens. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and John Warner (R-Va.).
It's a complicated parliamentary maneuver, but what you need to know is that any of the four amendments will need 60 votes to pass, which none are expected to get, setting up another vote on Thursday on a resolution by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). This resolution will pass, which will then allow the Senate to begin talks with the House and White House on a compromise Iraq funding bill.
