KANSAS CITY, Mo. Police say an SUV rear-ended a parked car and sent the vehicle crashing through a Kansas City daycare center, injuring three children and the driver of the SUV. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

About 40 children were inside the center when the Range Rover struck the back of the parked Cadillac and sent it through the front of the building. Police say the SUV driver was "approximately 80" years old.

Two children were rescued from under the Cadillac.

Initially, police said the driver of the silver car had fled the scene, but that proved not to be the case. The owner was not inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. When he came to the scene, the beleaguered man told CBS affiliate station KCTV5 that he had no idea how his vehicle wound up inside the daycare.

The incident occurred at 12:56 p.m. local time at the Christian Academy Child Care east of downtown. Dozens of Kansas City firefighters rushed to the scene.

Children who weren't injured were being kept at a nearby house, where tearful parents embraced their kids.
