Fla. teen couple accused of plotting to kill girl's mother

A Florida teen couple is facing attempted murder charges after they allegedly plotted to kill the girl's mother so they could be together, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

The boy, 15, allegedly plotted the attack with his girlfriend, 13, and slashed her mother's throat, reports the station. The woman reportedly survived after undergoing emergency surgery.

The girl's parents had forbidden their daughter's relationship, reports the Orlando Sentinel, citing arrest documents.

According to police, the girl woke her mother early Sunday and lured her to the garage of the family's home in Ocala, about 85 miles northwest of Orlando, saying she had heard loud noises. When the mother entered the garage, the girl's 15-year-old boyfriend jumped out from behind the garage door and told the mother she shouldn't have impeded her daughter's relationship and that he could provide for the girl, reports the paper.

The boy reportedly then attacked the woman and slashed her throat.

A sheriff's office spokesman told the Sentinel the teen couple had communicated on the phone and via Facebook for about a week to plot the attack.

The boy also held a knife to the throat of the girl's father, reports WKMG. The man wasn't injured. The boy was persuaded to take the bleeding woman to the hospital, where officials called the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Hours later, the teens were arrested. They both face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Monday, a judge refused home detention for the teen couple, reports the station. They remain jailed at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.

During Monday's hearing, the couple reportedly sat feet apart and repeatedly glanced at each other while the boy's mother broke down in tears.

An arraignment is set for March 18.
