Florence Pollard and Brian Craig, N.J. mother and boyfriend, charged with chaining son to radiator for two weeks
(CBS/AP) CAMDEN, N.J. - A southern New Jersey mother and her boyfriend have been charged with chaining the woman's 10-year-old son to a radiator for two weeks.
Police announced Tuesday that 31-year-old Florence Pollard, of Camden, and 29-year-old Brian Craig, of Blackwood, were arrested Monday in Camden and charged with child endangerment and criminal restraint.
Authorities say Pollard called police to report her son had run away. But when the child was found a few blocks away, he told officers he had been chained by his ankle to a radiator in his mother's bedroom for two weeks as punishment. Police say he was sometimes unchained to eat and to use the bathroom.
CBS Philly reports the boy had to sleep on the floor and his hands were sometimes restrained by plastic zip ties.
Officers say they found a chain and lock attached to a radiator.
Pollard and Craig are each being held on $50,000 bail.
The boy and his five siblings - ranging in age from less than 1 to 11-years-old - were in the custody of state child-welfare officials.
