(CBS) - The popular online photo management site Flickr launched new products yesterday, adding deeper integration of real-time web.

Flickr for Android looks similar to Instagram for the iPhone. Flickr

Flickr for Android devices is not quite the same as the iOS version. Some of the features look more like the Instagram iOS app - which is not available on Android, FYI. What a genius move to fulfill the void for hip mobile photographers.

The developers did such a good job that we implore them to update the iOS version, like ASAP! Flickr is such an establishment that it's tough to keep up with fresh startups that were designed for the social web, as we know it. This Android app is a move in the right direction.

Keeping with the social theme, Flickr also launched photo sessions. The new feature lets users create sessions where people are invited to view photos together. People can join and leave the session as they please. It's sort of like a PowerPoint photo presentation with a chat box, but cool.

We say, Kudos to Flickr for evolving to meet the needs of the current social web culture.

Flickr was launched in 2004 and quickly drew a large following. Yahoo bought the photo service in 2005 and reports that the site has 51 million registered members and 80 million visitors per month.
