Flames Tie Canadiens 3-3

Montreal skated to a 3-3 tie against the Calgary Flames, and they have Andy Moog to thank for it.

The Canadiens goaltender blanked Calgary in the first and third periods, including a key third-period stop on Theoren Fleury's breakaway.

"The turning point of the game was the stop on Fleury," said Montreal coach Alain Vigneault said. "If he scores there, it's 4-1."

The tie at the Molson Centre extended the Habs' unbeaten streak to five games. They have three wins and two ties in their last five outings, all on home ice.

Moog stopped all nine Calgary shots in the first period, 10 shots in the third period and 28 of 31 on the night.

"Andy made some big saves," said Calgary coach Brian Sutter. "Otherwise we're up a lot more than 3-1."

It was the Flames' seventh straight road game in 12 nights. Their fatigue showed in the third period as they let a 3-1 lead slip away.

After Moog made his key stop on Fleury, Patrick Poulin and Benoit Brunet scored to pull Montreal into the tie.

Jim Dowd, Cory Stillman and Sandy McCarthy scored for Calgary in the second period to erase Montreal's 1-0 lead.

"We were all kind of scratching our heads in the second period," Moog said. "We had a couple of mix-ups, and that gave them a two-goal lead."

Jonas Hogland, acquired on Feb. 1 with Zarley Zalapski from Calgary for Valeri Bure and a conditional draft pick, scored for Montreal on one of five power plays in the first period.

"We're undefeated in five," Vigneault said. "There's nothing to complain about."

Sutter saw things pretty much the same.

"We played hard enough," Sutter said. "There's no question about it. We'll take the point and get out of town."
