Fla. insurance agent shot to death; boyfriend arrested

SANFORD, Fla. - Police in Sanford, Fla. have arrested and charged the boyfriend of a 53-year-old insurance agent who was shot to death outside her office Monday, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

Richard Barnes, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cynthia McGee Bryant.

Barnes was reportedly spotted by witnesses arriving at the McGee Insurance company, where Bryant worked, on Monday afternoon before several gunshots were fired, police said. Barnes was reportedly spotted rushing away from the scene through a back alley.

Bryant, Barnes’ girlfriend, was struck 2-4 times by gunfire, police say.

Barnes, who is described as being homeless, was arrested at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

He pleaded his innocence as police took him to jail.

"I didn't kill Cynthia, I love Cynthia," he said, according to the station.

According to Seminole County court records, Barnes has a criminal record that includes arrests for loitering, driving without a valid license and sexual assault involving domestic violence.

Bryant was reportedly in the process of becoming an ordained minister when she was found dead.
