Five Va. teens arrested for assaulting Halloween trick-or-treaters, stealing their candy
(CBS/Reuters) DALE CITY, Va. - Five Virginia teens were charged with assault by a mob and robbery after allegedly beating up two Halloween trick-or-treaters and stealing their candy.
Police said that last Monday the group of teenagers surrounded a 15- year-old and 17-year-old as they were knocking on doors for treats in Dale City, Va. 35 miles southwest of Wash., D.C.
Johnathan Perok, a spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department, said one of the teens claimed to have a handgun and demanded the trick-or-treaters give him their candy. The two victims wouldn't hand it over, so the teens attacked them, he said, resulting in a few minor injuries.
Five were arrested in connection with the alleged assault, including four juveniles whose names were not released; 19-year-old Andre Diggs was arrested and is being held without bond.
"Robberies are not unusual, but these are kids," Perok said.
