Five Freeware Gems I Can't Live Without

crossloop.jpgA few months ago I listed five freeware gems I use every day. Today I've got five more, and while I don't use all of them on a daily basis, I definitely can't live without them.

  • CrossLoop For remote access to another PC, there's nothing easier than CrossLoop. Just run the small client app on your system, then instruct the user at the other end to do likewise. Presto: You're connected, able to see and control the other PC and even transfer files.
  • Lotus Symphony 1.1 I need a word processor. I need a spreadsheet manager. And occasionally I need a presentation tool. Lotus Symphony provides all three, with all the essential features found in Microsoft Office but little of the bloat (and none of the price). Most businesses could save a small fortune by adopting this excellent freeware suite.
  • MozyHome Free Available for both Mac and Windows PCs, MozyHome Free provides 2GB of secure online storage and a simple software client that automates backups. It's absolutely essential for archiving critical data. Need more storage? A mere $4.95/month buys you unlimited space.
  • Revo Uninstaller If you routinely install and uninstall new programs, ditch Windows' crappy uninstaller and use Revo instead. It works faster and removes all traces of the selected program, leaving behind no system-clogging Registry debris, icons, etc.
  • Startup Delayer Tired of your slow-booting PC? A huge part of the problem is all the software that's trying to load simultaneously when Windows boots. Startup Delayer lets you select startup programs to load later -- thus helping your PC boot significantly faster. I love, love, love this thing.
Okay, your turn. What beloved freebies did I leave off the list?
