Fireworks and star performances dazzle on July 4

(CBS) From sea to shining sea, a dazzling display of fireworks lit up the country in celebration of July 4 - and a bunch of big-name stars got in on the patriotic celebrations.

In New York, Beyonce performed "God Bless The USA" and her new single "The Best Thing I Never Had" during the "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular." Country music star Brad Paisley also performed during the Independence Day special, which included fireworks over the city's Hudson River.

In Washington, Josh Groban, Jordin Sparks, Matthew Morrison, Steve Martin and the cast of "Million Dollar Quartet" all performed at the "A Capitol Fourth" concert, held on the Capitol lawn. The show ended with a huge fireworks display.

And in Boston, Martina McBride accepted a last-minute invitation to perform with the Boston Pops for the city's annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. Lionel Richie was supposed to perform, according to the Boston Globe, but had to cancel his appearance on Thursday after injuring a vocal cord.
