(CBS/WISH/AP) BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - More than 500 people turned out to look for 20-year-old Lauren Spierer Saturday in Bloomington for an effort called "Find Lauren Day," however the searches turned up nothing.

Search coordinator John Summerlot said volunteers traveled from as far as Illinois and Kentucky to join the search, which covered a wider area than previous ones. An Indiana National Guard Reserve search and rescue team also took part.

The spirited commitment to finding Lauren touched people whom Lauren never knew.

"Since I have a daughter who is Lauren's age - her name is Lauren and she goes here...We wanted to do anything we could to get her back to her family and have a great reunion for her family," volunteer Ted Schuser told CBS affiliate WISH.

Some volunteers carried walking sticks and water bottles; almost all wore sturdy shoes and layers of clothing, ready for an all-terrain hike through outlying areas of Bloomington and into Brown County in the hopes of finding anything that might offer a clue.

The large call-out for volunteers on "Find Lauren Day" was not a last, final push for volunteers, officials reported. Searches for Spierer continued at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Spierer is described as a white woman, with longer than shoulder length blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slender build. She is 4-feet-11-inches tall. She was last seen on June 3 barefoot, wearing a white tank top with a loose light-colored shirt over it and black full-length stretch pants.

Anyone with information should call the national tip line at 1-800-274-6388.
