Feinstein, Schumer Push For 'no Confidence' Vote On Gonzales

After first being floated several weeks ago (credit here to Roll Call's Erin Billings for breaking the story), Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) and Charles Schumer (N.Y.) are again pushing for a "no confidence" vote on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his stewardship of the Justice Department.

“We need an Attorney General who is a prosecutor, not a puppet,” Schumer said in a statement released today.  “A vote of no confidence will express that sentiment and send a powerful message to the White House that Congress does have a stake in these matters.”

Update - Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), who has been critical of Gonzales in recent months, has now joined with other GOP senators in calling on him to step down. Coleman is the sixth Republican senator  to offer a "hard" resignation statement, with a couple more pretty close. tpmmuckracker has the latest roster (http://www.tpmmuckraker.com).
