Fashion Week Settles Into New Home at Lincoln Center

NEW YORK (CBS) New York Fashion Week opens Thursday in its new home - Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park .

Previously, the semiannual event, sponsored by Mercedes Benz, took place at Bryant Park. The new space is bigger and will accommodate larger crowds.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will kick off the week, which features designs for the spring of 2011, with a special ceremony on Wednesday. Runway shows start Thursday.

The event, held each September and February, draws some 230,000 people and generates $770 million in revenue. New this year is a Fashion's Night Out show tonight, featuring 150 models wearing fall 2010 designs that consumers can buy on Friday's Fashion's Night Out. The show is being webcast live and will be aired on CBS next week.

QVC, the shopping channel, is opening a pop-up store in Rockefeller Center from which it will air live broadcasts throughout the week.

Other highlights will be Tommy Hilfiger's 25th anniversary show and the debut of Michael Bastian's first women's collection for Gant. There is also a report in WWD that Tom Ford's show this week will also feature some women's looks.
