Facebook's Blake Ross kicked off Google+ (but only for a little bit)

Twitter

(CBS) - Thursday morning, co-founder of Firefox and Facebook director of product Blake Ross tweeted that Google+ suspended his account because of his name.

"After reviewing your profile, we determined that the name your provided violates our Community Standards."

The story got picked up after Ross sent out this tweet, "Google+ banned me for having the audacity to be named Blake Ross? Are they just banning all FB'ers? I smell fear."

Anyone else think we're all overreacting to this story - especially since his profile was returned to him this afternoon?

This isn't the first time users have hit a road block on Google+. Actor William Shatner was kicked off of the popular social networking site for the same reason as Ross.

Google's policy on names is strict. No pseudonyms allowed. Vice president of product for Google+ Bradley Horowitz addressed the issue on July 26, after a large amount of users were denied access to their profile.

While it was probably just a thoughtless mistake, the fact the Ross is a Facebooker only adds fuel to the social network war. We can't wait to see these two brazen companies duke it out.
