Fabulous Sales Tool. Awful Marketing!

I wanted to tell you guys about a sales tool called ConnectAndSell, which I recently heard a couple of sales managers praise to high heaven. Here's how it works.

ConnectAndSell assigns you a team of callers who make telephone calls to a list of clients or prospects that you've provided them. Within two-tenths of a second of reaching a live person, the call is transferred to you. It's so quick, the person on the other end has no idea you didn't dial the number.

When you're done with the call, you hang up, and another call is queued up for you. You spend zero time dialing and 100 percent of your time talking with prospects. They guarantee 5 live connects (i.e. conversations with named individuals you have targeted) per hour, and typically average 7-10.

Now, that's a very cool idea, because it takes a lot of pain out of cold-calling and makes the time spent on it far more productive. But here's the funny part. They are attempting to promote the concept with the absolute worst marketing video I have ever seen in my entire life. It is truly the "Cloud 9 From Outer Space" of marketing materials.

Here's the turkey in all it's glory:

Could they have made this video MORE boring? I think not. And how about showing the SPEAKERPHONE when describing the product?? Talking heads are boring enough, but at least you can watch their mouths move. The speakerphone didn't even have a flashing light! Truly painful.

This serves to illustrate what I've been writing about in posts like "Why Your Marketing Is Ineffective". How could ANYBODY think that this awful video would do ANYTHING except either put people asleep or make them think that your marketing team was completely clueless. Even so, the fact that ConnectAndSell is getting traction as a sales tool illustrates my point that a good product can become popular even with bad marketing.

Here's an objective writeup from my friends over at CSO Insights: First View: Connect and Sell.
READERS: Anybody used this tool? I hear it's pricey but worth twice the outlay.
