EU's foreign policy chief heads to Saudi Arabia for unscheduled stop

The European Union's foreign policy chief will hold unscheduled talks with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah after the Palestinians and some Israeli officials responded positively to the Saudi ruler's new peace plan, an EU official said Tuesday.

The EU policy chief, Javier Solana, will fly to Jeddah on Wednesday, said Cristina Gallach, a spokeswoman Solana spokeswoman.

"This (the trip to Saudi Arabia) comes after he (Solana) got very positive responses from the Palestinians and some Israeli officials," Gallach told The Associated Press. ^scw-kl
