Esquire envisions a wired modern bachelor

Esquire

(CBS) - Apparently, the ultimate bachelor requires a breathtaking loft equipped with a social media dashboard to track all of his friends and associates. At least, that's the picture painted by Esquire's ultimate bachelor pad.

There are many notable things about the 2011 Esquire apartment, but my interest was piqued by a prominent screen featuring Twitter, Instagram and Foursquare feeds.

Esquire partnered with creative digital agency Luxurious Animals and Lufthansa airlines to design the Digital Loft that takes up the third floor of the sprawling penthouse atop the Clocktower Building in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

Using a variety of technologies, such as hashtags and social search engine, the social media dashboard keeps a constant feed of Foursquare check-in, Instagram photos and Twitter updates.

The idea was to illustrate the ultimate bachelor's connected lifestyle, Esquire's associate publisher Stephen Jacoby told me over the phone. Technology has always been a big part of the Esquire apartments' design, but now that social media has come into its own, it was important to incorporate that aspect.

As a matter of fact, Jacoby told me Esquire featured one of the first 50-inch flatscreen TV at the 2004 Esquire apartment. At the time, flatscreens were a pipedream for most households.

"Our vision for the Esquire 2011 Digital Loft was to demonstrate that social media can coexist harmoniously in a living space," said Luxurious co-founder Robert Bengraff. "In recent years, our social lives have moved past the physical world and now exist to be shared in the digital space. The Ultimate Bachelor Pad demands the latest technology and it must be woven into the fabric, the paint, and the architecture of his home."

With an unobstructed view of Manhattan at eye-level and a constant social media feed on the screen above, it's easy to see how technology can be integrated into our everyday lives without being stuck to a small screen.

How else is the modern bachelor wired? The loft's designers incorporated Toshiba's Thrive tablet and TouchTunes' smart juke box, among other gadgets. Oh, did I forget to mention the life-size hologram of "PanAm" bombshell, Margot Robbie? Oops. Minor detail.

There's also a digital clock that acts as a window to the world. Called the 5th clock, it showcases places the modern man would travel. FYI, the clock has its own Twitter page.

The question that we wanted to know is if Esquire's ultimate bachelor is an iPhone, BlackBerry or Android type of guy.

"Whatever he feels is easier. Probably a combination of devices," Jabocy told me. "I use an iPhone, but I can't live without my BlackBerry."
