Escude Wins Toulouse Final
Capping a week in which he beat three seeded players on the way to his first ATP final, France's Nicolas Escude defeated Daniel Vacek of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-1 in the Toulouse Open Sunday.
"I'm happy because I won without playing my best tennis," Escude said.
Escude broke for 2-0 in the first set, was broken back for 2-2 but broke Vacek's serve again at 6-5 for the set.
The Czech slung his racket disgustedly towards his chair and was booed by the crowd.
Escude, ranked 80th in the world, broke Vacek's serve in the fourth and sixth games of the second set for the easy victory.
A U.S. Open quarterfinalist, Escude hopes to make the French team that meets Australia in the Davis Cup final at Nice in December.
"To do that I'll just have to keep on winning," Escude said.
