Emmy Awards 2016: Matt Damon taunts Jimmy Kimmel onstage
Matt Damon crashed the Emmy Awards, seemingly just to taunt host Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel did not win for Outstanding Variety Talk Series -- the honor went to “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” instead -- and Damon wanted to rub some salt into Kimmel’s wounds when he crashed the stage and asked Kimmel who won. When Kimmel responded that it was Oliver, Damon cheered.
“I knew. I had him in my pool,” he said as he casually snacked on an apple.
“I’m sorry,” sighed Damon. “What am I doing? This is so humiliating. I mean you lost and now you gotta stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody when you probably just want to go home and curl up and cry. But hey, can we cheer Jimmy up? He’s a big loser. Can we get a round of applause?”
The audience clapped before Damon continued: “I think everybody else here feels really sorry for you. OK, I’ll see you later at the after-party.”
That’s when things got really sad. “There’s an after-party?” asked Kimmel in a dejected voice.
“Never mind,” said Damon. “Oh hey Jimmy, tell your mom I like them apples.”
Kimmel did not look amused as he said, “Good one.”
