Emerson Will Stay In The House

Well, that was fast.

Republican Rep. Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri announced Monday that she'll not run for governor, and instead remain in the House, stemming, for the moment at least, a parade of GOP House members heading for the exits next year.

"I am not going to run for governor," Emerson said. "I can't close the door to any future opportunity, but ending my service to the Eighth District in Congress requires a darn good reason, and today, for me, the race for governor just isn't it."

In announcing she would not pursue the governorship, Emerson, who said she has "searched (her) soul during these last give days in Missouri," also announced she has filed for reelection.
