Elizabeth Smart marries boyfriend in Hawaii

Elizabeth Smart, who at 14 was abducted and held captive for nine months, married her boyfriend in Hawaii on Saturday, Reuters reported.

Smart's uncle Tom Smart told Reuters that Elizabeth, now 24, and Matthew Gilmour married at a Mormon temple on the north shore of Oahu. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the two met while Smart was serving on a mission in France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints last year.

Spokesman Chris Thomas said the couple were with a group of immediate family and that they were "beaming."

"To be in one of her favorite places with her family has made for a dream wedding. It's been an absolutely beautiful day,'' said Thomas to People magazine.

Rescued kidnapping victim Smart engaged

Smart's engagement was announced last month. Her father Ed Smart told The Associated Press that his now son-in-law is a "fine young man." He also said he's pleased for his daughter and hoped she has a happy life.

Onetime itinerant street preacher Brian David Mitchell was convicted in 2010 of Smart's 2002 kidnapping and sexual assault. He's serving a life prison sentence.
