Edwin Rosario, Cleveland man, allegedly kidnapped teen and held her in Va. Beach motel room
(CBS) VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- A man from Cleveland is accused of abducting a 17-year-old girl on Mother's Day weekend, driving her roughly 550 miles southeast to Virginia Beach and holding her captive in a motel room, according to CBS affiliate WTKR.
The station said the 33-year-old suspect, Edwin Rosario, was arrested and charged with sexual battery and kidnapping in both Virginia and Ohio.
The victim's family told WTKR that they knew Rosario from their church, saying he was the music teacher there and someone that they trusted.
According to Cleveland station WJW, police said Rosario stole the victim's father's truck and left with the teen, who apparently agreed to go with him.
When police searched the motel room where the victim was allegedly held they found hair dye, broken glass and a sharp instrument, said the station.
WTKR reported that the police said that when Rosario checked into the Sea Shell Motel on May 12, he tried to make the girl dye her hair and he threatened to hurt them both with broken glass from an ashtray if she tried to run away from him.
The station said that the girl secretly called a family member from a payphone to ask for help when she went with Rosario to a 7-Eleven.
According to the station, court records show that Rosario has a criminal record as a sex offender.
The victim's family told CBS Virginia Beach that the girl is back in Cleveland and is getting counseling.
