Edwards lawyers prod ex-aide's wife on memory
(AP) GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Attorneys for John Edwards are trying to get the wife of his close confidant to admit that she and her husband have problems with their memories.
Cheri Young is the wife of Edwards' former aide Andrew Young. She was questioned Tuesday about her migraine headaches, and her husband's sleep medication and drinking. Cheri Young is on the witness stand for the third day in the former candidate's campaign corruption trial.
Edwards is accused of using money from wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress as he sought the White House in 2008. The Youngs say it was Edwards' idea to hide Rielle Hunter and for Andrew Young to claim paternity of the child she had with Edwards.
Edwards has pleaded not guilty to six counts related to campaign finance violations.
