Ducks Stop Here: Pa. man refusing to give up his feathery friends
(CBS) DELMONT, Pa. - Jim Kistler plans to keep his four pet Blue Swedish ducks in Delmont, Pa., no matter how much local officials quack about it. According to CBS Pittsburgh, Kistler says he got a notice telling him that having the ducks is a violation in the borough and that he could be fined $500 dollars a day.
Instead of getting rid of them, he's planning to pay $400 to appeal.
Kistler says the ducks are definitely pets, not "poultry," which is referred to in the zoning ordinance.
Furthermore, according to CBS Pittsburgh, he says he has no intention of eating them, and they can't produce eggs.
"Frankly, how can anyone tell you what kind of pet you can have!" Kistler told the station.
Blue Swedish ducks are not uncommon as pets. Kistler says he always keeps them in a pen and that they don't make much noise.
Oh, and since you didn't ask, we'll just tell you that the ducks are named Larry, Moe, Curly and Fred.
A hearing to decide the foursome's fate is set for later this month.
