Drunken Driver Found In Brosnan Crash
The Chevy Blazer that crashed in Malibu, Calif., last weekend with serious injuries to actor Pierce Brosnan's son was driven by a 19-year-old determined to be legally drunk, Hollywood.com reports.
The California Highway Patrol found driver James P. Hall had a blood-alcohol level of .09 at the time of the accident. The legal limit in the state is .08.
Sean Brosnan was one of six teen-agers in the 1982 Chevrolet Blazer when it rolled more than 100 feet down an embankment off Dume Mountain Way at about 4 a.m. Saturday. Sean Brosnan suffered injuries including a broken pelvis, a ruptured bladder and possibly some fractured vertebrae.
The boy's father, best known for his role as James Bond, rushed to the scene from his Malibu home and rode with his son in a helicopter to the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Driver Hall, who is a cousin of the young Brosnan, was charged with suspicion of driving while drunk and causing major injuries. He was not booked immediately because he was undergoing medical treatment. He told police that he had tried to avoid hitting a rock and lost control of the car.
On the April 27 edition of Extra, another passenger maintained Hall was not drinking, although others in the sport utility vehicle were. "The initial investigation indicates that in addition to the driver, several of the passengers had been consuming alcoholic beverages," the California Highway Patrol has said.
Sean Brosnan underwent emergency surgery, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane.
In addition to Brosnan, the other passengers were identified as Hall's 16-year-old brother, Anthony Hall, Cory Escobar, 19, and Morgan Meyer, 20, all of Malibu, and Robert Laird, 18, of England. Most of the passengers reportedly had only minor injuries.
The police said some passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.
