Drea de Matteo returning to "Sons of Anarchy"

A familiar face will be returning to "Sons of Anarchy" next season.

Actress Drea de Matteo is set to reprise her role as reformed drug addict Wendy in season 6 of the FX motorcycle drama series, TV Line reports.

The mother of protagonist Jax's first son Abel, Wendy may or may not be filling the maternal void left behind after Jax's wife Tara was arrested for providing a murder weapon to incarcerated club member Otto last season.

But then again, let's not forget Jax's most recent encounter with Wendy, where he injected her with heroin to discredit her chances of getting custody of Abel. It seems like a mend between the two parents was permanently thrown out the window after that, but perhaps they'll come together for the sake of their son.

As series creator Kurt Sutter recently pointed out, there's a certain irony that Wendy started out as the most troubled character when "Sons" first began, only to now emerge as the most stable.

"She's the only one that's hit bottom and had to do some work on herself," Sutter said, according to TV Line. "And now she has some self-awareness, which none of those guys do."

Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" will premiere in September.
