Domingo Vilalta's Body Found: Was He Pushed or Did He Fall?
MIAMI (CBS/WFOR) The body of a 22-year-old man found in Biscayne Bay has been identified by Miami-Dade police as Domingo Vilalta.
Authorities believe Vilalta was either pushed or fell off a boat close to Broad Causeway Sunday night before 8:30 p.m., said CBS affiliate WFOR. Relatives spotted Vilalta's body while searching Pelican Harbor early Tuesday morning.
According to investigators, Vilata was celebrating with a group of people in two boats located off the Broad Causeway. As the vessels departed, they noticed that Vilalta was missing; both boats returned and searched the area, but didn't find him.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and police vessels searched the waters off the Broad Causeway and Bay Harbor Islands Sunday night and the majority of Monday, but there was still no sign of Vilalta.
Police have started a homicide investigation into Vilalta's disappearance pursuing leads that he may have been pushed off the boat, said WFOR.
"They pushed him off the boat on purpose," said the victim's cousin, Jennexis Castranos. "They were having a discussion and they pushed him off."
No charges have been filed.
