Domenici Expected To Announce Retirement From Senate

Word on Capitol Hill is that Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) will announce his intention to retire tomorrow.

According to sources close to the office, Domenici has called a mandatory 4 p.m. staff meeting and is expected to tell his staff he will not seek re-election next year.

Democrats had already begun targeting this race as a potential pick-up even before this latest development. If true, Domenici's retirement would provide Senate Democrats with yet another winnable open seat.
