Domenici Called McNulty Directly On Iglesias
Sen. Pete Domenici's (R-N.M.) efforts to oust David Iglesias, the former U.S. attorney in New Mexico, were once again raised in the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday when Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty testified that Domenici had called him directly last October on Iglesias.
According to McNulty, in his testimony, as well as excerpts from a closed-door interview he gave to congressional investigators on March 30, Domenici called him on Oct. 4 to complain about Iglesias.
"[Domenici] expressed his concerns about the abilities of David Iglesias, and he used general terms, things like he's not up for the job, [in] over his head, not getting the job done, things to that effect, and I think he's just not the right guy for the job," McNulty told congressional investigators on March 30.
According to McNulty, Domenici "didn't, as I have searched my memory, refer to any specific case. He just talked in generalities about [Iglesias'] fitness for the job. He may have mentioned categories like public corruption and immigration. So I am a little vague on how - how many categories, including in terms of [the] kind of work [Iglesias] is doing. What is clear in my memory is [Domenici's] statements of lack of support for his abilities."
