"Dog shoots woman" story: Canine knocks over shotgun, hits Texas homeowner-pet owner in the foot

Free Press/CBS
(CBS/AP) FORT WORTH, Texas - North Texas police say a dog was wandering around its Fort Worth home Saturday night when it knocked over a shotgun leaning near the homeowner (and dog owner). The gun discharged when it fell to the ground, striking the 78-year-old woman in the foot as she watched television.

She didn't immediately seek medical attention and by the next morning her foot had swollen. She then sought treatment at a Fort Worth hospital.

A police spokeswoman tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the shooting victim says the dog shouldn't be blamed.

Really!

The name and breed of the dog weren't released. The police spokeswoman said, "He has the right to remain silent."
