Infuriated Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd just told CNN that the White House meeting was scuttled by a new House GOP plan -- a "press release" -- that may have had the backing of John McCain.
Dodd claimed that all parties -- especially Hank Paulson -- were taken by surprise when House Republicans introduced a "new core agreement" at variance with what the Senate and administration had agreed to.
House Minority Leader John Boehner, Dodd claimed, suggested that "John McCain was somehow supportive of it."
House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (R-Mass.), later disputed that, saying that McCain has staked out no position.
