Divas "Celebrate Soul" with Clarkson, Blige, Khan
(CBS) It was all about soul music at this year's VH1 Divas celebration, which aired Monday night and featured performances by some of today's biggest artists and a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse.
The Roots served as the backup band, as the evening got underway with Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blige performing "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by the Supremes.
As part of the Memphis tribute, Jennifer Hudson teamed up with Jessie J for "Knock on Wood." Erykah Badu, Chaka Kahn and Mavis Staples performed "I'll Take You There."
The evening wrapped with a tribute to Amy Winehouse, introduced by rapper Nas, who's featured on the singer's posthumous album, "Lioness: Hidden Treasures."
"I'm here to honor a woman who had enough soul to last a lifetime," he said. "I wish she was here tonight, but like smoke, Amy Winehouse is still in the air lingering around all of us, and she'll be here for a long time to come."
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, along with Wanda Jackson, sang Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good." Florence + the Machine's Florence Welch did a version of Winehouse's "Back to Black."
Other performers at VH1's "Divas Celebrates Soul" included Estelle, Martha Reeves, Marsha Ambrosius, Boyz II Men and Travie McCoy. The show was filmed on Sunday at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.
