(CBS) PASADENA, Texas  - An ongoing dispute over a loud motorcycle took a deadly turn between Texas neighbors Wednesday morning, according to CBS affiliate KHOU.

Police say a Pasadena man apparently had a habit of riding his motorcycle across Chris McLain's lawn when he got home from work around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, McLain confronted the motorcyclist.

"The guy that was on the motorcycle got off of the motorcycle and he eventually stabbed the guy that confronted him," Pasadena police spokesman Vance Mitchell told KHOU. "And at that point, they got into a fight. And the man who was on the motorcycle was choked to death."

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify him, saying only that he was in his mid thirties.

McLain was rushed to Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute by Life Flight, where he was listed in critical condition.

McLain's father said his son had no choice but to defend himself.

"No question this was self defense," said Turner McLain. "My son is not a violent person."

Turner McLain told KHOU his son had no idea why the neighbor came at him with a knife.

"When I did talk to him before he went into surgery, he said they're not doing anything to help him. He was more worried about him [the neighbor] than he was himself," the father said.

Detectives said the case would be referred to a grand jury without charges.
