Disney: Angels Sale Is Rumor

The Walt Disney Co. said a reports it is considering selling the Anaheim Angels are rumor.

"We do not comment on rumor," Chris Castro, director of corporate communications for Disney, said from her Burbank office.

Citing an unidentified baseball source, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday that Disney is considering a sale but hasn't spoken with potential buyers. The New York Times had a similar report Sunday.

"I think there are some thoughts that they would like to sell," the Los Angeles paper quoted its source as saying. "But I'm also not sure that they are not changing their mind day-to-day."

"I think they are in the internal debate stage and haven't gone so far as to listen to offers or talk to prospective buyers. I think it is a situation that should be watched closely."

The Angels had high hopes entering the season and a high payroll as well a franchise-record $60 million. But they have fallen out of contention in the AL West during the last month and trailed first-place Texas by 20 games going into Monday night.
