Enberg joined CBS Sports in January 2000 after 25 years with NBCSports. This will be his first year calling play-by-play for CBS Sports coverage of NCAA tournament He called the event five times for NBC He will also call the NFL, U.S. Open Tennis Championships and contribute to Masters and PGA Championship.
His assignments at NBC included: NFL, including Super Bowl (8 times); Rose Bowl (9 times); Orange Bowl (6 times); Olympic Games (1972, 1988, 1992, 1996); French Open (16 times); Wimbledon (19 times); U.S. Open golf (4 times); Ryder Cup (2 times); American and National League Playoffs (3 times); World Series (1 time); Heavyweight boxing championships (3 times); NBA Playoffs and NBA All-Star Game also called gymnastics, figure skating, Breeders Cup and track and field.
Enberg began full-time broadcasting career in 1965 as radio and television voice of California Angels, UCLA basketball and Los Angeles Rams He was named California Sportscaster of the Year (4 times). He hosted long-running series, Sports Challenge and was co-producer of Emmy Award-winning PBS series, The Way It Was.
He is an 11-time Emmy Award-winner and received Sportscaster of the Year Award 9 times. He also recieved the Ronald Reagan Media Award and Victor Award as top sportscaster of past 25 years He is the only person to win national Emmy Award as sportscaster (1981, 1983, 1990, 1993), writer (1988, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999 (2)) and producer (1978) He became only the fourth television sportscaster honored with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998. Other awards include the 1989 Tennis Play-by-Play Man of the Year Award (Tennis Magazine); the 1989 NFL Press Box Award as footballs top play-by-play announcer; 1984 Eclipse Award; and 1974 local Emmy Award for coverage of Rose Bowl Parade.
He earned a masters and doctorate degrees from Indiana University. He was assistant professor and assistant baseball coach at California State University Northridge (1961-65). He is an active in fundraising for education and was named a Distinguished Alumnus by Central Michigan and Indiana University. He was inducted into Central Michigan University Athletic Hall of Fame (1993). He also has served as spokesperson for GTE Academic All-America program since 1985. In 1999, Indiana University established Dick Enberg Distance Learning Center in School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
He is the father of six children and currently resides in Rancho Santa Fe, California with his wife, Barbara, and three youngest children.
