Nev. college student, reported missing in Calif., found safe

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The Nevada college student who was reported missing by her family has been found safe, reports CBS affiliate WPRI.

According to family members, Dianne Thacher contacted them around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities reportedly confirmed that Thatcher had been found safe in her dorm at Sierra Nevada College.

According to the station, her family said she traveled from Nevada to California to meet up with some high school friends, but lost contact on Oct. 5. Authorities said Thacher had been seen checking out of her motel room on Oct. 6 and on the same day her vehicle was found with a flat tire.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's office, the 23-year-old reportedly met a male acquaintance after her vehicle got a flat tire. Her cellphone died shortly afterwards and her phone was not active for the whole week, officials said.

Thacher then reportedly stayed with the man for several days. When she left to return home, she saw the media coverage regarding her disappearance and called authorities, according to WPRI.

Police say Thacher was not injured, and there was no foul play associated with her disappearance.
