Suspect in murder of Texas boy, 12, arrested after manhunt
HOUSTON -- A gunman accused of killing a 12-year-old boy in a New Year's Day shooting at a home north of Houston has been arrested after a manhunt, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
Kahlid Yusuf Worrell, 24, was arrested Tuesday after the car he was driving was pulled over by a violent offenders task force in Houston. Police say Worrell is suspected of killing 12-year-old Deunte Cooks at a home in northwest Harris County Jan. 1.
The boy's brother, 23-year-old Dashawn Norwood, was also shot multiple times but he survived, reports the station. A third victim, who the station identifies as Rogerious Grant, was grazed by a bullet.
Family tells the station the gunman knocked on the door and asked for Norwood, shooting the man in the mouth when he jumped out of a window to escape. The family claims the boy was killed because he witnessed his brother's shooting, reports the station.
A motive in the shooting isn't clear. Worrell is charged with murder and was jailed without bond. He was expected to go before a judge Wednesday.
"Jail not good enough, he needs to die right now," Deundre Cooks, the victim's father, told the station.
