Del. woman, 19, accused of intentionally striking 18-year-old brother with van, killing him

CBS

(CBS/AP) ELSMERE, Del. - Police say a 19-year-old woman intentionally ran over her brother with a minivan after a fight near their Elsmere, Del. home. Her brother, 18, later died.

The siblings fought in the van Tuesday and Elsmere police say Sheila Martinez-Rodriguez then intentionally hit her brother, 18-year-old Jesus Martinez. Paramedics say he was trapped beneath the van and dragged for about 100 feet.

Police say Sheila Martinez-Rodriguez abandoned the van and fled in another vehicle.

Rescuers freed Jesus Martinez from beneath the van and he was flown to Christiana Hospital, where he later died.

MyFoxPhilly.com reports a baseball bat was found at the scene but investigators have not said whether it was connected to the case. According to NBC Philadelphia, one of the siblings allegedly used the bat during the fight.

Police say they found Sheila Martinez-Rodriguez at a McDonald's restaurant a few miles away. She was arrested and charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to report an accident.

She was reportedly released Tuesday night on $25,000 unsecured bail.

It is unclear what initially sparked the fight between the two siblings.
