Defenders Of Wildlife Fund Launches Radio Blitz Against 5 Republicans
The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund launched a series of radio ads today against five GOP congressmen who they accuse of “having their heads in the sand” on global warming. They will be airing for at least the next week on drive-time radio.
While all the ads criticize the Republicans for having ties to big oil, the three against Reps. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.), John Doolittle (R-Calif.) and Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) specifically target their recent ethical troubles. The ads all refer to the three members as “one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress” and then detail the allegations of corruption against them.
“Congratulations to Rick Renzi! While Washington is filled with scandals, our congressman has been named one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress. And he’s earned it,” an announcer exclaims in the ad against Renzi. “Renzi was forced to pay $320,000 in back taxes and was fined thousands for filing false campaign reports. Even worse, Renzi is now under investigation by the FBI for corruption in a land deal so sleazy the Phoenix New Times said even the lobbyists knew it stunk.”
