Dear Colleague: Thanks for being a jerk

Members of Congress typically use Dear Colleague letters to gin up support for a bill or amendment, or, on rare occasion, to get folks to stop asking them why their arm is in a sling.

It’s not often the collegial venue is used to blast away at members for perceived transgressions. But that’s what Rep. John L. Mica (R-Fl.) just did. His letter sarcastically thanks his colleagues for perpetuating childhood misery by voting against his Head Start amendments. He was rewarded by getting the letter anonymously leaked to The Politico.
