DCCC Hits Republicans On SCHIP
Democrats are targeting five House Republicans for voting against legislation that would add 5 million children to a state-run children's health program.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is running radio ads this week criticizing Republican Rep. Jim Saxton of New Jersey and three Floridians -- Vern Buchanan, Tom Feeney and Bill Young -- for voting against a recently approved House bill to renew the children's health program.
The committee is also making phone calls to Louisiana voters represented by Republican Rep. Richard Baker.
"Did you know Congressman Saxton receives health care at taxpayers' expense?" the announcer asks in one ad. "Saxton voted against providing health care for 5 million uninsured children. Tell Jim Saxton to put families first."
In another, running in a district heavy with retirees, the announcer says, "Did you know Bill Young receives health care at taxpayers' expense, but voted against lowering seniors' Medicare deductible and co-payments for preventative care? Tell Congressman Young to put seniors first."
