Davis Says Warner Should Run Again

Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) said Thursday he hopes Republican Sen. John Warner runs for reelection next year despite the widespread belief that the former has readied a campaign to replace Virginia's senior senator.

“I hope tomorrow Sen. Warner announces he is seeking reelection," Davis said in an e-mail. "That would be good news for Virginians and all Americans.”

Davis has long been viewed as a top candidate to replace Warner should the senator decide not to run for reelection. Warner will announce his plans during a press conference Friday afternoon on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville.
