"Dark Shadows" trailer released

(CBS News) The trailer for Tim Burton's latest film "Dark Shadows" has officially been released and, while the beginning of the trailer is reminiscent of a Gothic horror film starring Johnny Depp as a vampire, it evolves into a comedy set in the 1970s.

Pictures: Johnny Depp

Depp plays Barnabas Collins who is turned into a vampire by a witch, played by Eva Green, in the 18th century. He is buried for years and is awakened in 1972. His '70s relatives, (Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller, and Helena Bonham Carter as the family's psychiatrist) greet him as he suffers from culture shock - comedy ensues.

The second half of the trailer is set to Disco tunes including T. Rex's "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" and Barry White's "You're the First, the Last, My Everything."

The movie is based on the 1966-71 soap opera of the same name. The show had a huge cult following, but it  was not made to be a comedy, so fans of the original may be a bit thrown off.

The film is set to be released in theaters on May 11.
