Dane Cook to lend voice to Disney's animated film "Planes"

Dane Cook is spreading his wings and venturing into family-friendly films.

The actor-comedian will lend his voice to the lead character in Disney's upcoming animated film "Planes," the studio announced Thursday.

Cook will play Dusty, a small plane that dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer -- but first must overcome a fear of heights.

According to The Wrap, Cook replaces Jon Cryer, who was originally attached to the project but bowed out.

"Planes" is being directed by Klay Hall, who has directed episodes of "King of the Hill" and "The Simpsons," and produced by John Lasseter.

The 3-D film will be released in theaters on Aug. 9. Watch a teaser trailer below:
