"Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars": Best dances of the season

Shawn Johnson, flanked by pro dancers Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, performs on "Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars" on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012. ABC

OK, to be honest, I'm still in denial that Shawn Johnson didn't win the mirrorball trophy Tuesday. When I think back over the all-star season of "Dancing With The Stars", her dances come to mind so clearly. Maybe it was the "secret weapon," the effortless gymnastics she was able to blend into the routines.

But there were a few non-Shawn routines that also stood out, too. Here, in no particular order, are some of the most memorable routines of Season 15, "Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars".

Samba trio - Shawn Johnson, Derek Hough and Mark Ballas

This was the wild one, where the boys in her life, Derek and Mark, prevailed upon skeptical Shawn to let her freak out. The trio dances were some of the most fun of the season. The threesomes concept challenged jaded professionals to do something new and fresh.

Knight Rider Bhangra - Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough

This one was part of the wacky combos night. Admittedly there was very little reference to the "Knight Rider" show, other than Derek's black leather jacket with lights on it. The kids threw themselves about in such weird contortions and somehow it all worked.

Quick Step - Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough

This was the controversial dance that might have cost Shawn the title. It starts with a flip and ends with Shawn and Derek throwing themselves off the "DWTS" stairway. In between, they toss out some of the rules of a quick step ... But as Shawn said, it was the team's "statement dance."

Bollywood - Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd

Gilles uncorked the spray tan bottle for his Bollywood routine. He had a number of fine routines this season but this was the fun standout.

Jive trio - Kelly Monaco, Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Louis Van Amstel

Kelly Monaco turned on the sass as she juggled two male partners for the jive trio number. This was Kelly at her best -- a crisp routine with a lot of attitude.

Surfer Flamenco - Kelly Monaco & Valentin Chmerkovskiy

This number started out as a full-on flamenco with red costumes and Spanish flair. And just when you were wondering what the surfer part would be, the couple ripped off their costumes down to their bathing suits and jumped into a wading pool. They continued the number with stone-face serious faces as the water splashed everywhere. So stupid, so fun!

Caveman Hustle - Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani

"DWTS" champ Melissa Rycroft had any number of superb performances this season. But they don't stand out to me like this one. She and Tony Dovolani wore the animal skins and brought some Flintstones attitude. Watch for when Tony hoists Melissa upside down and plays bongo on her buns.

Group dance Gangnam Style

I asked a female co-worker for her input on the best dances of this season and she said "the one where Gilles was in a towel." That, of course, was the group dance Gangnam style, which, as the judges said, was one hot mess.
